Contact printing frames
What is a printing frame used for?
For most alternative photographic processes in which a large-format negative is exposed in contact with a positive carrier:
Contact copies on printout paper (albumen prints, platinum and palladium prints, oil and bromide prints, carbon prints, etc.)
What does it do?
It brings the negative into direct contact with the paper carrier, pressing them firmly together across the entire surface, without any air bubbles.
Since high-class printers often work with textured artist paper, the printing frame must also be able to bring textured paper into the closest contact with the negative.
In this case possible variation of pressure is extremely useful.
A good printing frame renders expensive vacuum presses unnecessary.
What will you get?
This design is meant for practitioners for whom the existing products are too feeble.
Our contact printing frames are manufactured of waxed cherrywood with a split back for better handling (you can check your print without moving it) with anodized black springs and also two aluminium bars where you slip the springs.
The back is covered with dense felt.
This means:
You’ll buy an article which will last for a lifetime and which pleases your eyes as well as your demands for perfect functioning.
Available in the sizes:
10×12″ (also good for 8×10″)
12×16″ (good also for 11×14″)
20×24″ (with three springs, good also for 8×20″, 12×20″, 16×20″).

Some comments on Lotus sheet film holders
Just the other day a customer sent a holder in to be checked for leaks which was not our brand … We soon found that the lighttrap was made of a cheap material and definitely couldn’t last long:
The lighttrap contained strips of plastic, v-shaped and felted. This pair of strips may trap light for a dozen uses, even a bit longer. Inevitably it will start to leak when the v-shape is relaxed and compressed by pulling the darkslides frequently. We at Lotus View Camera have spent a lot of time on research and a lot of money on creating the best tooling for making a guaranteed lightproof lighttrap. We ended by incorporating the traditional copper-beryllium comb shape as the heart of our lighttrap. Felted with special fabric it makes our sheet film holders more reliable. It is cheaper in the long run to buy good quality.
The following sizes are available:
4×10″, 7×17″, 8×10″, 8×20″, 11×14″, 14×17″, 12×20″, 20×24″
Filters - compendia
Lee Filter
The Lee Filter Holder System is so versatile that it can be fitted to almost any lense on almost any camera. Adapter rings, which screw onto the front of the lens to accommodate the filter holder are available from stock in a wide range of sizes and allow for quick and easy handling and exchange of filters.
High-quality Lee gelatin filters allow the simulation of actually existing tonal relationships in black-and-white photography or, if desired, they allow a realistic representation to be skillfully rendered unfamiliar.
Filter for Black and White Photography »Black and White Set«
Our Basic Set entails a quartet of filters which all absorb varying degrees of the blue and blue-green parts of the spectrum, creating different tones and contrasts of skies and foliage on black and white film. They can also be used to create special effects.
Available in polyester in the sizes 100 x 100 mm and 150 x 150 mm.
Filters for Colour Photography
Numerous effect filters are available for colour photography as well. These filters can be used to create tints, soft focus, colour graduations, mist or stars and numerous other effects.
Resin filters and graduated filters are available upon request.
Fresnel screens
The Fresnel lens which we use in large-format photography is a converging lens in the form of a thin plastic panel with a series of concentric stepped grooves or rings.
Depending on the direction of the basis they will generate enlarging or diminuating effects. The fresnel screen is placed over the groundglass and brightens up the corners of the groundglass image. Their strength of diffusion facilitates evaluation and accurate focusing especially for short focal lengths. Furthermore accurate exposure determination is made possible through the equal distribution of light.
