Alternative Printing and Chemistry
Cyanotype kit
|
Cyanotype is one of the oldest and simplest methods
of printing. In 1840 the great scholar Sir John Herschel described it
for the first time.
He coated paper with a potassium-ferricyanide-solution,left
it to dry in the dark, and finally printed it out by sight.
He got a positive picture in different shades of
bright Prussian blue on a white base. The effect of the picture depends
very much on the type of paper used: with paper barely spread with glue
the image virtually sinks in. When it is heavily spread with glue the definition
is heightened.
